Strong Leaders, Strong Values

Crew #697 began as a discussion among Camp Baker staff in the summer of 1995.  The thought was that a group of staff could meet year round to have fun while providing service to camp.

In November 1995, we had our first weekend activity at Camp Baker.  12 youth and 4 adults came out to camp to share in fellowship and service. (
Youth - Al Gauche, Cameron Mulder, Carl Hastings, David Kastendick, Shawn Harty, James Johnson, Jon Park, Kevin McDaniel, Adam Harper, Erik Kuyper, Tym Lemke, Jeremy Todd.  Adults - Chris and Lisa McCullough, Brian Brock)

On December 31, 1995 we received our first charter, at that time, in the Greenwood District in the Oregon Trail Council.

Since then over 150 Camp Baker and Melakwa alumni and parents have belonged to Crew #697, chartered to "The Friends of Camp Baker", a committee of involved Scouters.

The Crew contributes an average of 400 hours of service to Camp, the citizens of Florence, and the Scouting community each year.

In the fall of 2008, the Crew did not recharter with the Oregon Trail Council.
